ETF Campaign to keep train crews on the trains
The ETF affiliates observed an increasing number of conductors-free trains in many countries and decided to have a coordinated European campaign to keep train crew on-board of trains.
The ETF underlines that the human presence of board of trains is fundamental to assure comfort and safety for all passengers, including persons with disabilities and reduced mobility.
The role of on-board personnel does not only cover commercial tasks: they have a fundamental role in increasing security on-board, they provide assistance and information to passengers, they have an important role to guarantee railway safety (such as safe door closing and train departure) and they play a vital role in managing degraded situations.
The first campaign took place on the 29th of October 2015, the ETF affiliates put in place at national level actions to raise awareness among passengers about the importance of train staff and to fight against the spreading of trains without on-board personnel.
