The ETF Dockers condemn the mass atrocities taking place in Gaza.
The Dockers’ Section of the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), representing over 75.000 dock workers across Europe, stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are enduring unbearable suffering, destruction, and loss of life.
As essential gateways for global trade and cooperation, ports are places of connection, exchange, and community that require open and peaceful relationships between people.
We cannot remain silent in the face of this humanitarian catastrophe. We therefore call on European and international institutions to take urgent and concrete measures to stop the violence, protect civilians, and work towards a just and lasting peace, and ensure Israel’s compliance with the international law.
Transport workers know better than most the consequences of war. They are often the first to face danger, insecurity, and displacement. At the same time, their work keeps societies connected — ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches people in need and that vital routes remain open even in times of crisis.
In this spirit, the ETF acknowledges the initiatives taken by workers and civil society to call for an end to violence. The Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza is a visible expression of this solidarity, aiming to deliver support and hope to the Palestinian people. The ETF welcomes this effort and recognises the importance of international action to uphold dignity and peace.
We are deeply concerned by attempts to criminalise transport workers, including dockers, for acting according to conscience and solidarity. Standing against war and supporting peace are not crimes — they are the very principles our movement is built upon.
The ETF Dockers’ Section reaffirms its commitment to justice, solidarity, and the dignity of all people. Together with our affiliates across Europe, we stress that war must never be normalised. Workers’ voices must be respected, and human rights must be protected.
The ETF encourages and will support any lawful initiatives undertaken by our members in solidarity with Palestine, and in defence of peace and justice.
