The European Transport Workers’ Federation has sent a formal letter to the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans raising urgent concerns about the implementation of the new Fisheries Control Regulation (EU) 2023/2842.
We outline our members’ concerns on how the current application of the regulation is placing disproportionate administrative, operational, and psychosocial pressure on fishers, particularly those working in small-scale and artisanal fisheries. We calls on the European Commission to adopt a Delegated Act to clarify the rules, introduce necessary flexibility, and exempt small-scale coastal fisheries from requirements that are unworkable in practice.
The letter emphasises the impact on safety at sea, working conditions, compliance with labour standards, and the long-term sustainability of the sector.
