The European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sergei Krajev, a London bus driver who passed away on 20 May following a violent assault while on duty.
Mr Krajev, a driver in his 60s employed by First Bus, was attacked on the night of Sunday, 17 May, while operating route 49 on the Battersea Bridge section of his journey. He spent two days in intensive care at St George’s Hospital before succumbing to his injuries.
The ETF stands in full solidarity with our affiliate Unite the Union, with Mr Krajev’s colleagues, and with all bus workers across the United Kingdom and Europe. No transport worker should lose their life doing their job.
We join Unite’s call on Transport for London, bus operators, and the relevant authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of all bus workers, including extending violence prevention and de-escalation training to all drivers without delay.
