End violence against women!

25 Nov 2022

On November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, ETF calls for:

  • Zero tolerance for violence against women
  • An end to violence against women
  • An end to femicide

In parallel with escalating conflicts around the world, we observe a sharp increase in violence against women. Recent events show us how imperative it is for governments to undertake the necessary measures to end violence against women.

These recent examples are two of many; oppression and violence against women are rife worldwide:

  • Mahsa Amini died in police custody in Iran after being detained for not wearing her hijab appropriately. Women in Iran are demonstrating for equal opportunities and freedom under the slogan WOMEN-LIFE-FREEDOM, risking their lives in the process.
  • So far, November alone reported around 7,8 million refugees from Ukraine in Europe. 9 out of 10 are women and children. Women refugees and their children risk exploitation, violence, and forced commercial sexual exploitation in host countries. In some countries, they face refusal of safe medical access to abortion.

The ETF stands in solidarity with women fighting for their rights around the world, and reiterates the urgent need for legislative measures and adequate resources to prevent and combat violence against women.
