ETF 2017 Congress focuses on Fair Transport for Europe

16 May 2017

The European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), the European body of the International Transport Worker’ Federation (ITF), holds its 5th ordinary Congress from 24 to 26 May 2017 in Barcelona under the slogan: “Fair transport for Europe – social justice, solidarity, unity”. More than 500 participants representing transport unions coming from 41 European countries will discuss strategies and actions to address the challenges in the transport sector and labour market and ensure a social future in solidarity for all.

The ETF Work Programme for 2017-2022 will focus on transport policy and sustainable transport, labour and trade union rights, organising globally, cross border representation and coordination and capacity building via training and education. Follow live the discussions on social media via #ETF2017 and the ETF 2017 Congress website www.ETF-2017Congress.org.

ETF General Secretary, Eduardo Chagas: “At this Congress the ETF members will shape the future of the ETF and the transport sector in Europe. 3.5 million transport workers count on ETF to eliminate social dumping practices in the sector and improve their working and living conditions. That is at the core of ETF’s as well as ITF’s priority work and we are ready to move Europe forward and fight for fair transport for its workers and citizens.”

Members of the press are cordially invited to attend the press conference taking place on Wednesday 24 May 2017, 11.00-11.45 in the Congress venue:

Hotel CROWNE PLAZA – FIRA CENTER

Av. De Rius y Taulet 1

08004 Barcelona, Spain

Congress is the most important governing body of the ETF where its affiliates decide on the organisation’s political approaches and strategies for the next mandate and elect the ETF leadership.

On 22-23 May the ETF Youth and Women’s Conferences take place in the same venue and will discuss the ETF Youth and Women’s Committees’ work programmes and elect both committees
