ETF Marks Pride Month: Fighting for LGBTQI+ Equality in Transport Workplaces

3 Jun 2025

As Pride Month begins, the ETF reaffirms its strong commitment to equality, dignity, and respect for LGBTQI+ workers in the European transport sector.

Despite legal progress in many countries, LGBTQI+ people – particularly trans and intersex individuals – still face daily harassment, hate crimes and discrimination. Much of this happens in public spaces and at the workplace: spaces where everyone should feel safe.

Verbal abuse and harassment remain routine experiences for many LGBTQI+ workers, while too many employers fail to act or are complicit in discriminatory practices. This is a clear violation of their duty to uphold equal treatment in employment and occupation.

ETF believes that every worker deserves to be themselves without fear. That’s why we continue to push for inclusive and safe workplaces. This Pride Month, we are organising our event “We are all equally different” on 27 June in Paris – bringing together union activists, allies, and LGBTQI+ transport workers to strengthen our fight for equality.

We are also running a Europe-wide survey on the realities LGBTQI+ workers face in the transport sector. Your voice matters – help us shape our future actions by participating: https://www.etf-europe.org/etf-launches-questionnaire-to-support-lgbtqi-transport-workers/

Finally, we urge the European Commission to take a clear stand by advancing the long-blocked Horizontal Anti-Discrimination Directive. The EU must lead by example in defending fundamental rights – including the right to equality at work.

This Pride Month, let’s recommit to solidarity, dignity, and collective power.

Because equality is union business.
