Some non-EU airlines are trying to implement a new business model based on the “flags of convenience” principle. As already demonstrated in the maritime sector, this results in a distortion of social conditions and competition. The social partners believe that this cannot be tolerated and therefore urged the European Commission to stop this practices.

As a follow-up of the plenary meeting of the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Civil Aviation on 5 July 2014, the European Social partners of the Air Crew Working Group have adopted a joint declaration against EU-based Flags of Convenience in Aviation.
