Recent developments in the shipping industry include the concentration caused by alliances and mergers, and the growing size of vessels. These changes have a huge impact on terminals and their workers.
Together with Feport, IDC International Dockworkers Council and ESPO, the ETF wants explore the socio-economic implications of those developments. For this reason, we are running a joint project called ‘The changing face of EU ports’, which we kicked off today in Brussels.
As part of this research programme workers’ and employers’ representatives from 15 European terminals will be interviewed over the coming months. Researchers will also speak to port authorities and shipping lines in order to build the first-ever study tackling these crucial issues for the future of our sector.
