News May 7, 2026 Automation in Danube inland ports: ETF contribution to the debate Upon the invitation of the Danube Commission, we participated in the Expert Meeting on the Development of Ports and Port Operations in Ruse (Bulgaria). The ETF was represented by Josef Maurer, Head of Aviation and Maritime, as well as Dencho Denchev from our Bulgarian affiliate FTTUB. We were invited to share the workers’ perspective on the conditions for the acceptance of automation and digitalization by port workers.
News February 6, 2026 ETF addresses key concerns of inland waterway workers in the Danube basin At the recent Danube Commission meetings in Budapest, the ETF addressed the regulatory and social challenges facing inland navigation workers. From labour rights enforcement to the recognition of professional qualifications, the ETF’s participation ensured that workers’ concerns were integrated into the region’s transport framework.
News November 28, 2025 4th Seminar on Inland Waterway Transport in the Danube Region On 17–18 November 2024, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) hosted the fourth and final seminar of the inland waterways pillar of the EU-funded project Delivering Fair Transport for All. As with the previous seminars, this session focused entirely on the Danube region. The first day featured a productive exchange with the Danube Commission on strengthening the involvement of the ETF and its affiliates in the work of this intergovernmental organisation established by the Belgrade Convention of 1948.
