The TRACE 2 Consortium kicks off project: TRACE 2 aims at developing content that can serve as a reliable common reference base for authorities and enforcers, as well as for drivers and transport undertakings.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been saying that a lack of available staff would be an issue in the aviation sector, and finally, it has arrived. “The industry is very much reaping what it has sown”, believes ETF Civil Aviation President Oliver Richardson.

Container hotels are just that: containers built for drivers to sleep in – assimilating professional drivers to the goods they transport. For the ETF, the concept is yet another way for transport companies to circumvent EU law.  

Finding new ways and solutions to address the climate crisis while making sure we fairly represent the aviation workers’ interests was the main focus of the discussions we had with members of the ETF Aviation Section these last few days in Dublin.

An ongoing survey on pilots’ working conditions and safety aims to investigate the effects of new business models and work conditions on pilots’ health, fatigue and flight safety, linking socio-economic aspects, health and safety.

This year, May 1 has extra special meaning for us because it coincides with the countdown to ETF Congress that will take place from May 24 – May 27 in Budapest, under the slogan All aboard! Destination: Fair Transport! 

No sustainable progress can be achieved in any industry, whether maritime or otherwise, while countries and companies remain engaged in a race to the bottom regarding tax and labour policies, which circumvent collectively agreed working conditions, including wages.
