The first European Citizens Initiative (ECI) ever – Water is a Human Right – collected over 1.5 million signatures across Europe. The European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), the organiser of Right2water campaign, reports this figure in a press release issued today, Tuesday 7 May 2013. This allows us to invite the European Commission to bring forward proposals for legal acts and implement the human right to water and sanitation in European law. However, EPSU states it will continue campaigning since there are several countries where more signatures are needed to pass the threshold.
