Social Partners and Aquapol demand EU legislative framework for inland waterways

26 Jul 2016

On 26 July 2016 the European IWT Social Partners together with Aquapol, the European agency for Waterpolice bodies, demand a legislative framework for Inland navigation in their letter to the European Commission.

European IWT Social Partners have expressed a clear and solid commitment to develop improved controlling tools and implement them simultaneously with a fundamentally revised manning regulation. They anticipate that both discussions will run parallel to one another and that their results will be implemented at the same moment in time. In their view, establishing modern and effective regulations requires a productive dialogue with the European Commission, international river commissions and control services aiming at administrative simplification.

Following building blocks have been distinguished as constituent parts of the envisaged framework:

  • Professional qualifications
  • Manning requirements
  • Digital enforcement
