We are all one in the sky | Open letter

20 May 2020

Responding to EASA’s Opinion No 01/2020, aviation stakeholders addressed a letter to Adina-Ioana Vălean, the EU Commissioner for transport.

In the letter, they assert that the upcoming U-Space Regulation represents an important first opportunity to achieve the goal of establishing a performance-based and risk-based regulatory framework that can provide some certainty to all airspace users and the aviation community. Such a framework would facilitate the safe integration of drones in Europe’s skies while also ensuring commercial drone services can grow.

Recognising the importance of the regulation, the signatories:

  • Offer their support to the European Commission and EASA to improve the draft regulation and provisions;
  • Urge the Commission to launch a new and more comprehensive consultation;
  • Encourage the Commission and EASA to ensure the transparency and efficiency of the regulatory process and related decision-making processes.

The letter to the Commissioner, including a detailed analysis of the stakeholders’ concerns, is available for download here.
