Today, 7 July 2014, the European Commission has presented its proposal regarding specific working time rules for the Inland Waterways sector. With this proposal, the European Commission aims to implement the Social Partners’ agreement on working time, signed on 15th February 2012.

The agreement sets minimum rules on working time for passenger or cargo transport ships in inland navigation across the EU. These rules would apply to crew members and shipboard personnel and complement the general working time Directive, which does not apply to Inland Waterways.
