FedEx-TNT plans to sack 361 workers in Italy. We back unions’ fight to save them.

16 May 2018

The merger of logistics firms FedEx and TNT continues to wreak havoc on the new supergroup’s workers. As part of the process to integrate the two organisations, company management in Italy wants to dismiss 315 Fedex workers and 46 TNT workers.

The ETF’s Italian affiliates FIT CGIL, FIT CISL and UILTRASPORTI have been left with no other choice but strike action. They will walk out on Thursday 17 May with our full support. This was made clear in a letter from ETF General Secretary Eduardo Chagas, which said that “ETF and its affiliates give their full support to the 3 Italian affiliates and ensure them of their unwavering solidarity with regard to their fight to defend the Fedex & TNT employees.”

Workers should not have to pay the price of this restructuring! We call on FedEx-TNT management to sit down and negotiate with the unions.
