We were shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible train accident of April 3, 2020, near the German town of Auggen in which a German locomotive driver lost his life and several other transport workers were injured. We express our solidarity with our German affiliates and all transport workers in this difficult moment.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible train accident of March 18, 2020, near the Strasbourg train station in which a railway track maintainer lost his life and a second track maintainer was seriously injured. COVID-19: Transport workers need protection and Europe needs to act now!

ETF is now once again calling upon the Commission to take concrete action to protect Europe’s transport workers as new developments arise every day. Reports received from around Europe show that some employers are not taking the pandemic seriously, and are putting workers in danger with their failure to act appropriately.

On the day of the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, we pledge our support to our brothers and sisters in the UK. We will continue to work cooperatively and in solidarity with all our affiliates, inside or outside the EU, to defend fair transport throughout Europe.
