Giorgio Tuti Elected New ETF President

6 May 2025

Belgian trade union leader Frank Moreels stepped down from his function of ETF President, in view of his upcoming role as President of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF). This follows a decision made at the recent ITF Congress in Marrakech.

Currently meeting in Split, Croatia, the ETF Executive Committee elected Giorgio Tuti as the ETF’s new President.

The Executive Committee took the opportunity to thank Frank Moreels for the dedication with which he led the ETF through challenging times for Europe and the trade union movement during the past 8 years. His enthusiasm and commitment have been instrumental in advancing the federation’s goals and mission and in delivering change. Under Frank’s leadership, the ETF and its affiliates have grown in numbers, power, and capacity to make transport workers’ voices heard in the EU and far beyond. Frank will stay active within the ETF.

The new President, Giorgio Tuti, brings a wealth of union experience and a strong drive to take the ETF to a next level of achievements, up until the ETF next congress in 2027.

A Swiss national, Giorgio Tuti has been a high-profile unionist in the Swiss trade union movement since 1988. He served as President of the Swiss Transport Workers’ Union (SEV) for 14 years, from 2009 to 2023 and has been Vice-Chair of the Swiss Trade Union Confederation since 2009. Tuti has been chairing the ETF Railways Section since 2017.
