The ETF welcomes the Council position on the reform of the Single European Sky. The 27 EU Member States today unanimously endorsed the modified text of the ATM reform prepared by the Portuguese Presidency.

Air traffic controllers in Tirana declared a temporary inability to work due to stress earlier this week, and the state reacted with force. The ETF stands in solidarity with the protesting workers and condemns the aggressive backlash of the state.

The ETF calls on MEPs to reject the European Commission’s greenwashing narrative surrounding the proposed Single European Sky reform. The proposal simplifies and oversells the potential positive effects for the environment while deliberately ignoring the reform’s adverse social impacts.

ETF responds to the new SES proposal. Initial analysis shows that the proposal ignores countless issues that air traffic management has been facing, and instead focuses on reducing costs of ATM services and aims to bring more competition into the sector.

To inform the EU citizens of the current situation of Air Traffic Services and potential consequences for the safety in the skies, Unions and Professional Associations representing ATM/ANS (Air Traffic Management/Air Navigation Services) staff (ATCEUC, ETF, IFAIMA, IFATCA, IFATSEA) have decided to launch a petition.

ETF has decided to stop all activities related to DG MOVE in the air traffic management field for the next three months, after receiving several reports of employers being pushed by DG MOVE to lower ANSPs’ labour costs.
