ETF workshop: how logistics Works Councils can use sustainability reporting to strengthen workers’ voice

News

Last week, the ETF brought together European Works Council (EWC) representatives from logistics companies for a workshop on strengthening EWCs in their sector.

The discussions focused on the opportunities created by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and how workers’ representatives can use sustainability reporting to gain greater insight into companies’ social and environmental impacts. Participants explored how EWCs can become an important forum for discussing sustainability strategies, monitoring due diligence processes and ensuring workers’ voices are heard.

Building on this, participants discussed the impact of supply chains and subcontracting on workers’ rights and working conditions. They exchanged experiences on outsourcing, cross-border operations and the challenges of ensuring fair treatment throughout increasingly complex logistics networks.

The workshop highlighted the important role EWCs can play in promoting transparency, accountability and meaningful worker involvement across the entire value chain.

Many thanks to all participants for their active engagement, valuable contributions and insightful discussions.
