On 24 September, trade unionists from across Europe gathered in Brussels to oppose the proposed EU "28th Regime". Organised by ETUC with the support of ETF and other European trade union federations and national unions, the rally highlighted concerns that the proposal could allow companies to bypass national labour laws and weaken workers’ rights.
The mobilisation took place on the day of the Competitiveness Council meeting, where the proposal was discussed by EU ministers. Trade unions are also preparing for the next key stage in the debate: the vote in the European Parliament, expected on 20 October in Strasbourg.
Transport workers and trade union representatives called for a Europe that promotes innovation and competitiveness while fully respecting labour standards, social dialogue and democracy at work.
ETF thanks all participants for their strong support and calls on workers, trade unions and policymakers to continue defending a social Europe. The next mobilisation will take place on 20 October in Strasbourg, coinciding with the European Parliament's plenary vote on the report concerning the proposed 28th Regime.
