The revision of the Visa Code (Regulation 810/2019) by means of Regulation (EU) 2019/1155 will start to apply as of 2 February 2020. In order to ensure that the revised Visa Code facilitates – and does not unnecessarily impede – the movement of seafarers and ensures their right to shore leave, maritime partners were actively involved in the revision of the Visa Code. By means of a joint industry statement, ETF, ECSA, ITF, ICS, CLIA, and CLECCAT therefore called on EU Member States and the European Commission to implement the revised Code in a manner that ensures seafarers benefit from the facilitations afforded by the Code.
