ETF welcomes the European Commission’s action plan to boost transport on the EU’s inland waterways.

While we welcome the objective of the new urban mobility framework initiative to increase the share of sustainable transport modes; for the ETF, it’s clear that the transport workers of urban mobility must be at the core of this framework if the EU is to meet climate objectives.

The ETF welcomes the Council position on the reform of the Single European Sky. The 27 EU Member States today unanimously endorsed the modified text of the ATM reform prepared by the Portuguese Presidency.

Ahead of the Social Summit, the ETF jointly with ETUC, EFFAT, ETF, EPSU, UNIEuropa and industriAll calls on the European Commission to not only confirm the launch of the European Social Security Pass (ESSP), but to move it forward from 2023 to 2022.

The ETF calls on MEPs to reject the European Commission’s greenwashing narrative surrounding the proposed Single European Sky reform. The proposal simplifies and oversells the potential positive effects for the environment while deliberately ignoring the reform’s adverse social impacts.

Fulfilling this vision requires platform companies to assume their responsibilities as employers and finally admit their workers are employees. Meaning they must adhere to regulations in place and ending their business model based on bogus self-employment and circumvention of labour and fiscal laws.
