This 28 June, the ETF - thousands of transport workers and their unions - will march in the streets of Lyon, France, for Fair Transport.

The ITF and the ETF express their firm solidarity with French trade unions as they prepare to take industrial action at the Aéroports de Paris (Charles de Gaulle-Roissy and Orly airports) between 1 July and 5 July.

On 17 December a decree has been signed by the French prime minister Édouard Philippe, temporarily changing the rules on the maximum allowed driving time of coach drivers. This move by the government comes amid the transport workers’ strike in France. The ETF believes that the temporary decree is aimed at undermining the workers’ actions. Additionally, the decree puts the safety of passengers in danger, since longer driving times increase the risk of accidents.

We stand with our French affiliates and support their national strike. May their voices be heard! Solidarity.

The Locomotive Drivers' Advisory Group and the On-Board Personnel Advisory Group, meeting in Brussels on 21-22 October, expressed their solidarity with French railway workers following an accident that occurred on October 16 between Mohon and Poix-Terron in Eastern France which involved a driver-only operation (DOO) train. DOOs are dangerous for both the train driver and the passengers: guards must be kept on board trains!

French law is being used to force a road transport and logistics multinational to take the necessary steps to stamp out human rights abuses in its supply chain, in the first case of its kind.

The budget airline is creating various subsidiaries. Aircraft will be moved from France, Germany and Italy to the newly launched Malta Air. These plans must not undermine the better conditions which unions have won from Ryanair in recent months. We met the Maltese Tourism Ministry to set out our position.
