On the heels of yesterday's report on How to Make Transport Fit for Women to Work in which revealed an alarming gender divide in the transport industry, comes a joint call by ETF and MEP Vera Tax call on Commissioner Vălean and Commissioner Dalli to mainstream a gender-responsive approach into EU transport policies. A debate on Women in Transport in the framework of the first European Gender Equality Week at the European Parliament, will take place today and tackle the underlying issues that lead to an underrepresentation of women in the transport sector.

ETF’s survey of around 3,000 women reveals a growing gender divide and marks the beginning of a campaign to ‘Make Transport Fit for Women to Work in’ targeting policymakers and social partners at both national and European level.

Social partners in urban public transport, ETF and UITP, virtually came together last week to discuss issues affecting urban public transport workers, the impact of the pandemic and the implementation of their joint work programme.

In view of the European Commission’s decision on its Work Programme tomorrow, the ETF wrote to EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen urging her not to put the EU pay transparency directive on ice!

On the occasion International Women’s Day, the ETF presents a teaser of the findings from the ETF survey on how to make the transport sector fit for women workers.

The ETF Women’s Committee elected Sara Tripodi (FILT CGIL, Italy) as their new chairwoman. New women representatives in the ETF Executive Committee, a women’s representative in the ETF Management Committee and a new Committee member were also elected. Congratulations to all!

To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, ETF's Acting General Secretary, Livia Spera, has joined other women trade union leaders in signing a letter to the European Commission President-designate Ursula von der Leyen, and Equality Commissioner-designate, Helena Dalli, on their proposals to increase EU action against violence against women.
