The Executive Committee of the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) has this week elected Giorgio Tuti as the ETF’s new President at their meeting in Split, Croatia.
Tuti has been chair of the ETF Railways Section since 2017. He was President of the Swiss Transport Workers’ Union (SEV) from 2009 to 2023 and has been Vice-Chair of the Swiss Trade Union Confederation since 2009.
The ITF extends our warmest congratulations to Giorgio on his election, as we look forward to him taking the ETF to greater strengths.
Belgian trade union leader Frank Moreels stepped down as ETF President as – following a decision made at ITF Congress in Marrakesh in October 2024 – he is due to become ITF President in January 2027, taking over the role from Paddy Crumlin.
The ITF would like to take this opportunity to thank Frank for his eight years of leadership, and his work helping to lead our sister organisation through difficult political times, whilst also increasing the strength of the affiliates, and promoting international solidarity
We would like to also thank Anu Hietala, General Secretary of the Nordic Transport Workers’ Federation (NTF) for her candidacy, and to note her strength and solidarity when she says that her commitment to ETF and to transport workers remains as strong as ever.
Commenting on the elections, ITF General Secretary Stephen Cotton said: “As the world reels from one crisis to the next, with the fallout from economic greed and war falling heavily on the shoulders of transport workers who move the world, we welcome Giorgio’s election and I look forward to working with him to advance the rights of transport workers across Europe and the world.”
