What is the situation of young graduates and women who work as managerial and professional staff (M&PS)? These issues were discussed at a workshop organised in Copenhagen on 18 and 19 June 2013 in the frame of the EU-funded project called “TRAN-MAPS”.
About 30 participants coming from 10 different European countries and 17 different organisations took part in working groups that assessed the way unions are dealing with M&PS issues. By means of group exercises, the attendees defined good practices and proposed concrete actions on how to target young graduates and women M&PS when it comes to organising these workers.
On 9 and 10 September, a second workshop will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, to talk about responsible European management, working time & workload and criminalisation of staff, issues that in particular affect managerial and professional staff. For each topic, a discussion document is being prepared that will feed into the general project conclusions and products, guidelines on how to unionise M&PS. After all, the main project objective is to define and concretise strategies transport trade unions can use when attracting M&PS to join the union. The final project conference which will present all outcomes has been scheduled for 16 and 17 December 2013 in Paris, France.
