Today is International Seafarers’ Day, and MARPOL is the world Maritime theme for 2023:
Seafarers have a unique role and active contribution to protecting the marine environment.
Taking this opportunity, and as the European Commission’s proposal for the revision of the EU Ship-Source Pollution Directive was published on the 1 of June, we once again ask for ensuring Fair Treatment of Seafarers in the event of a maritime accident.
Seafarers have the right to undertake their work without fear of being treated unfairly or, even worse, placed in detention without recourse to fair justice and representation.
