EU Commission slashes rules designed to hold companies accountable for key human rights and environmental abuses in their supply chains. The European Commission has announced deep cuts to its environmental and human rights reporting and due diligence standards exempting thousands of businesses from complying with public reporting requirements, with potentially dire consequences for workers across the world.

Brussels, Belgium – February 15, 2024 – The European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) today called on the permanent representations of EU Member States to strongly support the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDD) Directive.

On World Day for Decent Work, the European Transport Workers’ Federation puts the spotlight on logistics workers: the invisible workers behind our supply chains in a rapidly growing and worryingly unregulated logistics sector.

This Black Friday, as a European trade union movement, we demanded a better deal for workers, casting a light on the abuses in e-commerce, organising workers to fight back, and pushing the #Fight4FairLogistics!

The ETF calls on the European Commission and world leaders at COP 26 to commit and strengthen just transition for transport workers and mandatory due diligence in the supply chain.

The ETF calls for a European directive on mandatory human rights due diligence and responsible business conduct. Companies need to finally be held accountable for the impacts of their operations, without prejudice to joint and several liability. A European directive would bring us closer to stopping violations of human rights that continue to take place in multinational operations, and their supply and subcontracting chains.
