Fair Transport in Europe: Young workers on the move
On the third day of the Youth Journey, all of our groups met many interesting colleagues along the way!
Our young activists from Nautilus International arrived in Rotterdam, where they had a chance to chat about common challenges and learned about the Netherlands’ extensive system of canals and inland waterways. Meanwhile our Eastern group arrived in Berlin, where they discussed how to get young workers on board of the unions, as well as how to make Europe more social. Our final group left Rome to fly on a Ryanair flight to Paris. There they heard about the struggles that Ryanair workers face day to day. Are we going to fight to improve conditions at Ryanair? Absolutely!
La Staffetta stops in Rome, Florence and Bologna
Three more stops for La Staffetta (relay race) promoted by our Italian affiliate unions FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL and UIL Trasporti! Today’s actions coincide with a national air transport strike to demand stronger rules against social dumping in the aviation sector.
Dockers in Germany, Netherlands and Belgium stand up for Fair Transport
Our dockers have been very busy today. They held actions for fair pensions in Rotterdam, on lashing in Hamburg and Bremerhaven, and in support of drivers’ rights and tighter road inspections in Antwerp. Not only did we see cross-sector collaboration by our friends in Antwerp, the events in Germany also welcomed international colleagues from Norway and Lithuania.
Nautilus fighting for a fair visa policy for river cruise crews
The river cruise sector is booming and it can afford to treat its workers with dignity and respect!
Today in Basel, ETF affiliate Nautilus stood against the push for a revision of the Swiss visa policy, which would mean lower wages, more uncertain terms and poorer working conditions for Indonesian and Filipino crew members. The race to the bottom has to stop!
Malta’s General Workers Union and president stand together for transport workers
General Workers Union Council in Malta were joined by the president of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca to stand in solidarity with transport workers fighting for dignity at work.
Fair Transport videos shown throughout the metro system in Bucharest
Today, ETF affiliate USLM (ATU) have been sharing Fair Transport messages throughout Bucharest metro system. Passengers and transport workers learnt more about our huge campaign against social dumping in Europe.
