To mark the longest day of the year, 21 June, the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) is shining a light on a crisis that never ends: driver fatigue. On 21 June, ETF and its affiliates will organise coordinated actions across Europe to raise awareness of fatigue in road freight and passenger transport, and to call for better working conditions for all professional drivers.

On 21 June, the ETF launched the very first Day Against Driver Fatigue in Europe. The ETF and its affiliates took action across Europe to draw attention to the critical problem of driver fatigue in road transport. 21 June was the longest day of the year – but for professional drivers, every day is the longest!

ETF warns that the EC's newly published proposal to revise the driving and rest time rules for occasional passenger transport threatens the safety of drivers and passengers alike and asks for the EP and the Council's support in protecting the working conditions of bus and coach drivers.

The European Commission is working on a proposal for the revision of driving and rest time rules in occasional passenger transport that could result in more consecutive days of driving and postponement of rest, which will have a negative effect on drivers and road safety.

The European Commission has clearly indicated that it will propose more flexible rules for the bus & coach sector – despite an alarming shortage of drivers and levels of driver fatigue - not on ETF's watch!
