This 21 June, ETF launches the very first Awareness Day on Driver Fatigue in Europe, to draw attention to how critical the problem of driver fatigue in road transport is. ETF and its affiliates will organise actions across Europe this week, calling for urgent measures to raise standards and ensure decent work in the road transport sector.

The European Commission is working on a proposal for the revision of driving and rest time rules in occasional passenger transport that could result in more consecutive days of driving and postponement of rest, which will have a negative effect on drivers and road safety.

Fatigue in professional drivers is the norm on European roads and directly linked to their notoriously poor working conditions, according to a new study by the European Transport Workers’ Federation, the first EU-wide study in 15 years, on driver fatigue in passenger and freight road transport.
