The ETF has addressed an open letter to EU member states on behalf of trade union member organisations representing professional drivers; calling on on national authorities across Europe to keep restaurants, cafes and sanitary facilities open in parking areas. The well-being of our drivers depends on it!

MEPs gave the green light to the new EU emission reduction target for 2030: 60% A good step, but targets are not enough to achieve the transition to climate-neutral transport. We need structural change! Environmental and social sustainability go hand in hand! In its Policy on Climate-Neutral Transport, the ETF lays out six key principles for a socially sustainable climate policy.

The ETF takes part in the European Commission’s Week of Action to tackle undeclared work by shedding light on the growing issue in various transport sectors – bogus self-employment.

In an open letter, Joris Kerkhofs and Jacques Kerkhof reflect on the effects of the crisis on inland waterways transport (IWT) in Europe. They explore the ways this crisis has impacted the sector and how we can ensure that it plays a role in the sustainable future of European transport.

On World Youth Skills Day 2020, the ETF highlights the need for quality training, skills, room for professional development to attract young workers to the transport sector, but above all emphasises the need for decent working conditions!

ETF and ECA call on the European Commission to reconsider one of the conditions attached to the approval of state aid for Lufthansa Group, as it would benefit some of the most notorious airlines that continue to lower working standards around Europe.

ETF president Frank Moreels and General Secretary Livia Spera met with Tomas Eneroth, Swedish Minister for Infrastructure, and Mattias Landgren, his State Secretary, today in Brussels.

Starting 1 November 2019, Denmark will tighten its rules for foreign buses and coaches. Foreign buses will be allowed to legally cabotage for seven consecutive days in Denmark per calendar month.

Tomorrow, October 16, 2019, the European Labour Authority will start its activities by holding its first Management Board meeting in Brussels, in the presence of Jean-Claude Juncker, European Commission President; Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President-Designate of the European Commission, and Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility. The European Transport Workers’ Federation will represent the European trade union federations on the ELA Management Board.
